Proudly South African is looking for a home, having found that the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) has said it is neither an agency or an NGO (non-governmental organisation) within the department.
According to report in today's Business Day, the organisation has been disowned by the department after about seven years of reporting into it.
Proudly South African was set up to promote South African-made goods and encourage people to buy them.
Although it was funded by government in its set-up stages, it is now funded via contributions from members, who pay 0,1% of their turnovers to carry the brand.
The organisation has asked government to assist with funding by becoming members, and to find a department for it to report to.
