Spescom Telecommunications has been awarded a multi-million rand contract for the supply of NG SDH (Next Generation Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) transmission equipment to Neotel.

The company will provide the technology through its international partner, ECI Telecom (Nasdaq:ECIL) – one of the world’s leading suppliers in this arena.   The contract, which was awarded at the end of May, is set to run for several years.
Spescom Telecommunications CEO, Thomas Makore says the equipment forms part of the transmission rings that Neotel is currently rolling out in metropolitan areas in order to supply a large range of services.
“The NG SDH equipment will connect to the Infraco core transmission network and to metropolitan transmission network.  This in turn will connect to corporate customers," says Makore.
He adds the equipment is state-of-the art and highly scalable and will form the backbone of the wireless and wireline last mile network for Neotel as well as backhaul services to other telecommunications operators.
“Given the exacting deadlines for Neotel to deploy telecommunications network infrastructure that will support competitive service offerings, Spescom Telecommunications is pleased to have been selected. The first batch has been installed and put into service in Cape Town.”
Makore says the contract volumes will be determined by the growth of the Neotel network.
