Bill Gates has been overtaken as the richest man in the world – with Mexican cellular phone tycoon Carlos Slim pipping him to the post.
Apparently, Slim's fortune has recently reached $67,8-billion, following a 27% rise in the share price of his cell phone operator America Movil. The new figures make him more than $8-billion richer than Gates.
Gates is worth about $59,2-billion.
Ironically, Mexico is one of the poorest countries on earth, with about half of the populattion surviving on less than $5.00 per days. Slim's fortune means that he earns about 8% of the country's gross domestic product (GDP).
