Pinnacle Micro has announced the availability of a new external hard drive – the new 250Gb capacity WD Passport Portable drive.

The sharp increase in storage offers users one of the first hand-held storage devices in the world with as much as 250Gb storage capacity.
According to Shane Hutchinson, Western Digital product manager at Pinnacle Micro, WD Passport Portable drives are becoming increasingly popular around the world for their plug-and-play capabilities – and for their stylish and portable design and sleek piano-black finish.
Weighing in at less than five ounces the lightweight drive fits easily into a pocket or backpack and is the perfect gadget to back up today's increasingly large files from digital pictures, high definition music and videos.
Hutchinson says the WD Sync software allows users to take desktop content with them by simplifying the synchronisation of essential personal files and Microsoft Outlook data on a PC.
If owners misplace the drive, they know their data is protected with 128-bit encryption. Additionally, Google software on the drive allows users to quickly locate files with the Google Desktop Search tool, manage photos with Picasa photo organiser software – and simplify  Web searches with the Google Toolbar search bar.
"The rich, storage-hungry media content generated by 10 Mega-pixel digital cameras and high definition video camcorders makes the 250 GB WD Passport Drive a compelling solution," says Jim Welsh, vice-president and GM of WD's branded products group. "WD Passport is a travel-friendly gadget for consumers who want to carry their entire digital portfolio with them."
