Intel has decided to stop opposing the One Laptop per Child Foundation and has joined its board so the two organisations can collaborate on bringing technology to poor children.
The One Laptop pe Child Foundation sells the $176 XO laptop, while Intel has its Classmate PC, essentially a competitive product.
The two companies will now collaborate with each other and may include elements of the others' technology in their respective products.
There is also speculation that Intel will help to commercialise the breakthrough display and power management technologies in the XO.
The One Laptop per Child Foundation will sell its computers to government agencies which would then distribute them free of charge.
