ICASA (Independent Communications Authority of South Africa) has approved Telkom's proposed new pricing structure and, from today (1 August), customer bills will reduced by as much as 38%.
While line rental charges will go up by 12%, most Telkom services will see a decrease in pricing, with data being the big winner.
The biggest price cut is in the ADSL service, where Do Broadband will drop by between 10% and 38% depending on the package and speed selected by customers.
Data services will also come down substantially, by an average of 11,9%.
In addition, dial-up Internet calls to ISPs will be billed on a per-second basis with no minimum charge.
On the voice side, long distance calls come down by 10% and international calls by 9%.
