TallyGenicom South Africa has announced the immediate availability of free technical training for all interested parties. Obtainable on the company's entire range of superior printing solutions, the courses will take place at its national headquarters in Johannesburg.

TallyGenicom South Africa is offering in-depth training of this nature for free and the courses will significantly improve service and support levels by arming technicians and support personnel with a comprehensive understanding of the company's equipment and consumables.
"As well as exposing technicians to our products," says TallyGenicom South Africa training manager Shawn Grobler, "the training academy is a forum for sharing tips and tricks based on our vast experience in the industry, which can be applied to other models as well."
Grobler is also quick to point out how flexible the training is. "The full course, covering the entire product set, takes a week to complete, but it is divided into daily sessions on individual products in recognition of the fact that technicians may only be able to spare a day or two," he says.
"In situations where there is limited staff availability for training, we would also encourage a company to work towards a fully certified team by sending one technician for a day's worth of training on each model," notes Grobler. "That way they can start sharing their knowledge with the rest of the team straight away."
The focus of the training academy is on sound, hands-on knowledge transfer and as such, smaller training sessions are the norm. "It's not about packing people in," maintains Grobler. "We try to accommodate specific needs and are very happy to conduct one-on-one sessions."
Daily sessions are divided into two parts. "The morning is spent discussing the specifications, features and theory behind a particular machine and the afternoon is spent stripping, reassembling and calibrating it."
The focus is on making the training as useful as possible and so a couple of real faults will be hidden in the machines as well. "It's a way of simulating the genuine issues technicians face on-site," explains Grobler, "and a great way to test their skills before we certify them."
Each course includes all relevant technical notes, maintenance manuals and drivers. Once trained, attendees will receive an official training certificate and benefit from full access to the TallyGenicom South Africa technical support department.
The TallyGenicom South Africa training academy is also open to resellers and end-users. "Obviously, this training is much more focused on the features of a machine and its maintenance," comments Grobler, "but will help everyone to use the equipment to its maximum potential."
Although the academy has only been running a short while, it has generated a tremendous amount of interest and enthusiasm. "We are delighted with the response," confirms Grobler, "particularly with training and knowledge transfer being such an important way of uplifting people here in South Africa."
Nonetheless, he is also quick to point out that the academy is not restricted to South Africans. "We have also been inundated with enquiries from all over the continent," Grobler enthuses, "and have already trained people from Namibia, Angola, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia."
