Both Westcon SA and Westcon Africa have recently reiterated their leading position in distribution on the continent.
At an awards ceremony which took place last week, Westcon SA received the award for Cisco Distributor of the year, with Comstor’s Jaco Serfontein walking away with the Cisco product manager of the year title.
Selection of the Cisco Distributor of the year is based on volume of business, overall sales achievement, achievement of business objectives and a focus on convergence and advanced technologies. “Through our value-added distribution model, we have worked closely with leading vendors to pre-package technology to meet the intricate convergence requirements,” says Jacques Malherbe, CEO of Westcon SA.
The Cisco product manager of the year is selected on merit in promoting advanced technologies, Cisco business development and the level of their channel focus.
As the biggest global networking company, Cisco is one of the Westcon’s prime vendors. “While we are already Cisco’s number one distributor, this reinforces our position in the market as a top convergence distributor,” he says.
Emulating its achievement in 2006, Jet Distribution (now Westcon Africa) was recently awarded the Symantec Africa Distributor of the Year for 2007 at the lavish Symantec Partner Summit Gala Evening hosted at the Wanderers Club Johannesburg. This recognition was based on out performing all other distributors in the African Territory, in particular 50% year-on-year growth in the SMB segment and investment in delivering Key Partner, Mid-Market, and Small Business events.
“2008 will witness further investment in the Symantec brand across Sub-Saharan Africa with the appointment of Product Managers in each of our ten branches in Africa,” says Malherbe.
He adds that in select countries this compliment will be enhanced with Technical Specialists. “By utilising our in house expertise and with the arrangement of Partner events we will endeavor to drive home the benefits of partnering with Westcon Africa and Symantec for all Security and Availability needs.
“We have now made a clean sweep of the distributor awards, which further strengthens our position – through our African and South African operations we have not only extended our footprint but have ensure that we have top quality products and services to bring to market,” Malherbe adds.
