A man who used botnets to infect up to 250 000 PCs in order to steal their PayPal details, will plead guilty to four felony counts in Los Angeles.
Among other things, he will admit to accessing protected computers to conduct fraud.
John Schiefer will be the first man charged in the US under the federal wiretapping law for operating a botnet.
It is believed Schiefer and some conspirators installed malicious code that acted as a wiretap to intercept message to online payment service PayPal and similar sites.
He could be facing a fine of $1,75-million and a prison sentence of up to 60 years.
