The McLaren Group has announced that it will deploy SAP solutions to help integrate its various business centres, increase productivity and act as a foundation for future growth.
It has agreed a new contract with SAP, the market leader in enterprise application software, for its business solutions, including the SAP HANA database. The announcement was made at SAPPHIRE NOW, which is currently being held in Orlando, Florida, USA.
“At McLaren, we’re accustomed to handling big data,” says Ron Dennis, executive chairman, McLaren Group. “On every lap of every Grand Prix, qualifying, practice session or test run, our Formula 1 cars generate vast quantities of performance data. Our ability to process that data and act on it rapidly is crucial to creating the kind of prescriptive intelligence that enables us to transform the outcome of races.
“And that need resonates through every other facet of our business. Big data is only going to get bigger. I’m greatly looking forward to working with SAP to further optimise the infrastructure and operation of the entire McLaren Group: to challenge ourselves to become even better than we are.”
The use of SAP solutions will help transform the IT infrastructure of the entire McLaren Group, providing an integrated and scalable solution that will further enable the Group to continue delivering maximum performance, both today and tomorrow.
It will be a technology showcase, amply demonstrating the efficiencies of scale that SAP software can deliver for small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as big businesses.
The McLaren Group’s core activity is Formula 1 racing, a data-intensive sport that demands technical agility and continuous, rapid invention. Beyond that, it is making significant investments in the future through a diverse and rapidly growing portfolio of businesses, including McLaren Applied Technologies and McLaren Electronic Systems, alongside McLaren Automotive.
This year, SAP is celebrating 40 years of innovation, helping its customers run better. By making the transition to SAP’s ultra-powerful software, including SAP HANA, the McLaren Group will continue to challenge technological boundaries.
“As a diverse and rapidly growing business, the McLaren Group has unique demands for software implementation,” adds Dennis. “These are exciting times for our business, and, as we look to the future, we’re pleased to be able to team with a company that shares our values – passion, commitment, and the willingness to make sacrifices in order to be absolutely the best.
“The growth and longevity of our brand are dependent on our having a diverse portfolio, supported by a strong business plan, implemented by the best people – with input from the best business associates.”
“Transforming information into intelligence in real time is a cornerstone for McLaren’s winning formula – and increasingly critical for the future of every company,” says Jim Hagemann Snabe, co-CEO, SAP AG.
“With SAP HANA, mobile and the complete SAP portfolio underpinning its business, McLaren can now bring increased intelligence across the full spectrum of its business operations. SAP will be able to help McLaren better anticipate, accelerate and differentiate its business — keeping it very much in the driver’s seat. In short, working together, SAP will help McLaren run like never before.”
