The deadline for submissions is fast approaching for the Zayed Future Energy Prize, with the final day for companies across Africa to enter being 16 July 2012. The Zayed Future Energy Prize, with a total prize fund of $4-million, recognises the most innovative renewable energy and sustainability projects.

The following categories and prize funds are open for submissions:

* Large corporation: Recognition award

* Small to medium size enterprise: $1,5-million

* Non-governmental organisation: $1,5-million

* Lifetime achievement: $500 000.00.

This year’s award sees the addition of the Global High Schools Prize of $500 000.00 to be divided among five regions (Africa, Asia, Americas, Oceania, and Europe) with each school awarded up to $100 000.00. The Global High Schools category forms part of the UAE’s commitment to the UN Secretary General’s Sustainable Energy for All initiative.

High Schools are asked to submit proposals that incorporate one or more of the pillars of the initiative including: renewable energy; energy access; and energy efficiency.

The Review and Selection committees will evaluate entrants on the basis of four criteria: impact, innovation, long-term vision, and leadership.

Dr Nawal Al Hosany saiys: “The prize is a great opportunity to recognise those African companies who are at the cutting edge of renewable energy and sustainability projects. The funding awarded could provide valuable support to future cutting edge and innovative work from these organisations.”
