VMware competition closes in two weeks

VMware’s Thinking Big for Your Business competition is well underway and the company is seeing some great entries from small and midsize businesses (SMBs) across Europe, Middle East and Africa.
With just two weeks to go, there is still a fantastic opportunity for SMBs to “think big” and enter the competition for a chance to win US$20 000 worth of VMware software and services. Entrants must explain in no more than 200 words how they would use VMware virtualisation and cloud technology to move beyond cost savings and help transform their business.
“Ambitious, smaller organisations are a major part of our business and they are ideally suited to the flexible nature of virtualisation and cloud computing,” says Chris Norton, regional director southern Africa at VMware.
“Virtualisation has opened up levels of IT infrastructure that would have been prohibitively expensive and complex when held physically on-premise previously and we want to ensure as many growing businesses as possible have access to the transformative potential of virtualisation and cloud computing.”
Opportunity for channel partners
While the emphasis in this competition is on smaller organisations, there is also a great opportunity for VMware partners to increase their exposure, learn more about existing customers’ plans to extend projects or new customers adopting virtualisation and cloud computing for the first time.
“These conversations are likely to lead to further opportunities around increased revenue for our partners. VMware research shows that every €1 spent in server virtualisation generates €13 in complementary products such as additional service requirements, hardware and software, so this will ultimately be of benefit to partners in the longer term,” says Norton.
What are the judges looking for?
VMware is looking for entrants who think bigger and bolder than just simple cost-cutting. As IT infrastructure based on virtualisation becomes the norm, companies need to think practically about business continuity, disaster recovery, how to access applications from multiple devices and how they can begin moving key operations to the cloud, from the everyday problems to the more unique and unusual issues.
How to enter:
* To enter the competition businesses must submit no more than 200 words of text via the Thinking Big for Your Business Web site by 31 July 2012.
* Entrants should outline a strong business case for using VMware solutions, demonstrate creativity and innovative use of VMware technology in the entry, explaining what products the business would like to use. Entrants also need to explain how they would measure the transformation or business results as a consequence of winning the prize.
* Companies eligible to enter the competition must have less than 1 000 employees and be registered in one of the following countries: Austria; Belgium; Czech Republic; Dubai; France; Germany; Israel; Italy; Netherlands; Poland; Republic of Ireland; Spain; South Africa; Sweden; Switzerland; Turkey; or the United Kingdom.
A shortlist of 10 entries will be drawn up by the judging panel resulting in one winner being selected and announced at VMworld 2012 Europe in Barcelona.
