Following a request for proposals (RFP) issued about two months ago, networking giant Cisco has made a decision on an additional distributor for the South African market.

Reliable sources have told IT-Online that AxizWorkgroup has secured the agency for Cisco in South Africa. Cisco’s current distributors in the region are Tarsus, Comztek and Westcon. With the merger between Westcon and Comztek, the decision to appoint an additional distributor does seem logical.

But it could also be viewed as a major coup for Jacques Malherbe, the former CEO of Westcon who, only a month ago, joined AxizWorkgroup to head up a new division at the disti – Advanced Technologies.
Malherbe was unavailable at the time of going to press.

Attempts to contact Cisco’s channel executive Stefano “Matt” Matteoli, also proved fruitless.
The companies are expected to make a joint, formal announcement on the appointment on Friday.
