Veeam Software, an innovative provider of backup, replication and virtualisation management solutions for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, has announced the immediate availability of Veeam Backup & Replication v7.
Among an array of market-leading features, the solution introduces two disruptive innovations, Built-in WAN Acceleration and Backup from Storage Snapshots, taking Modern Data Protection to the next level and receiving excellent reviews from users.

“More than 73 000 companies already rely on Veeam Backup & Replication, and in this new version, we’re setting the highest standard for Modern Data Protection,” says Veeam’s president and CEO, Ratmir Timashev.

“Feedback drives our innovation and the response from users has been extremely gratifying. From reports of much faster offsite backup to improved RPOs to a host of benefits from other new features, Veeam Backup & Replication is once again answering market needs like no other solution.”

Developed by Veeam and optimised specifically for Veeam backups, Built-in WAN Acceleration copies data to offsite locations up to 50 times faster than a regular file copy. It also eliminates the need to purchase and deploy a general purpose WAN acceleration appliance or acquire additional network bandwidth for offsite backups.

“Even many of the enterprise-focused legacy backup solutions don’t offer WAN acceleration embedded in their product,” says Rachel Dines, senior analyst at Forrester Research.

“Most organisations need to get copies of backups off site. The new feature Veeam is announcing makes that process much more efficient.”

Developed in partnership with HP, Backup from Storage Snapshots dramatically improves recovery point objectives (RPO) and greatly reduces stress on the virtual infrastructure. As a result, IT admins can make backups as often as they wish, even for I/O intensive virtual machines. The solution works with HP StoreVirtual VSA, HP StoreVirtual (LeftHand, P4000) and HP StoreServ (3PAR).

Veeam Backup & Replication v7 also introduces 7 additional market-leading features and more than 75 other new features/enhancements, including Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SharePoint, VMware vCloud Director Integration, Self-Service Recovery of VMs and Guest Files and Native Tape Support.

“We’re required to backup to tape once a month, so we copy from our backup target to tape, which takes a long time,” says Judica Kluit, senior systems administrator, City of Lelystad. “With Veeam, we plan to archive backups to tape automatically and save about eight hours each month.”

To meet customer’s individual data protection and budget requirements, there are several editions of Veeam Backup & Replication available, including Free, Standard and Enterprise. With the release of Veeam Backup & Replication v7, Veeam also introduced an Enterprise Plus Edition that includes Built-in WAN Acceleration and Backup from Storage Snapshots.
