Ericsson has joined New York University’s NYU Wireless as an affiliate sponsor of research exploring a new generation of wireless technologies, also known as 5G.
New York University’s Polytechnic School of Engineering launched NYU Wireless in August 2012. Focused on mass-deployable wireless devices across a wide range of applications and markets, NYU Wireless is the first university centre to combine wireless, computing, and medical applications research.

Ericsson is the ninth major international technology firm to join NYU Wireless as an affiliate sponsor. Each company assigns two members to the research centre’s industrial affiliates’ board, ensuring an unusually deep, co-operative relationship.
These board members keep faculty and students informed about industry needs and provide employment opportunities for students, and the academicians and students bring innovative ideas into the affiliate companies of NYU Wireless.
Industrial affiliate sponsors gain early access to NYU Wireless research and often work with students and faculty on directed research projects, and they frequently hire NYU School of Engineering students into positions of technical leadership.
