A MAZE. / Johannesburg 2014 will open its doors in less than 20 days. This is the third International Games/Playful Media Festival in Africa, and forms part of Wits University’s inaugural Fak’ugesi Digital Africa Festival.

Taking place in Braamfontein, A MAZE. / Johannesburg 2014 is set to become one of the hottest spots for games and playful media in Africa.

Festival director and A MAZE. founder Thorsten S. Wiedemann says the A MAZE. 2014 programme is jam packed.

“We are excited to bring together the most relevant creative individuals and forward thinkers of the local and international games and digital art scene. Kicking off on 10 September and running until 13 September, we have a three day programme packed with talks, panel discussions, the best selection of independent games, interactive installations, a market hack, workshops, screening and music.”

Prof Christo Doherty, co-founder of the Fak’ugesi Digital Africa Festival, says that A MAZE. 2014 will not disappoint.

“The goal of A MAZE. is to create an annual evolving international platform for African and European media artists and game developers. This is the third year in a row that the festival will open up a playground for everyone wanting to experience creative expression with code, play and technology.”

A MAZE. / Johannesburg 2014 is presented in partnership with the Digital Arts Department of the University of the Witwatersrand, in co-operation with Kalashnikovv Gallery and supported by Goethe-Institut, Swedish Institute, Connect_ZA/ British Council and Pro Helvetia. It is also co-funded by the European Union.
