ICT companies are urged to join the fight against bribery and corruption in the sector by signing their names to an anti-corruption pledge.

Collaborative Stakeholder Movement (CSM) is issuing a friendly challenge to IT organisations to become one of the early adopters in the anti-corruption initiative.

The organisation is approaching the ICT net-vendor community, encompassing hardware vendors, software vendors, distributors, VARs, telcos and service providers together with the ICT net-user community from across the South
African economy.

It is believed that bribery and corruption is almost endemic in the ICT industry, says CSM board member Martin Humphries. After lobbying companies in the ICT industry, consensus was reached of the need to sign a formal pledge, he says.

“ICT companies want to send business and government a strong message that this behaviour will no longer be tolerated. It is bad for businesses, for creating employment, our country’s image and the economy as a whole.”
