Dimension Data has announced that Dimension Data IT Services (ITS) has completed phase 1 deployment of Intel’s vPro remote desktop management solution ahead of schedule.
According to Stephen Green, executive; Next Generation Data Centre at Dimension Data Middle East and Africa: “Dimension Data has made great strides, with support from Intel, to bring the deadline forward. Dimension Data’s fleet of vPro compatible devices in the MEA region are now benefitting from features such as out of band remote desktop support, remote device rebuild, remote power up and power down.

“These features will reduce the need for physical desk side visits, resulting in a cost and time saving for the desktop support function. It will also enhance the remote desktop support capability in the various regions that Dimension Data ITS supports. Furthermore, the roll out was an invaluable learning opportunity to further extend this solution to our clients.”

The first deal has already been secured with Dimension Data currently using vPro to support around 2,000 devices at Alexander Forbes in South Africa and cross border. Growing this client base will be a focus area for Dimension Data’s in 2015.

With vPro, Dimension Data and its clients can take advantage of Intel Active Management Technology (Intel AMT) to access, track, and manage thousands of devices remotely even if the hard disk drive has crashed or is inaccessible.

New devices with Intel AMT can be diagnosed, isolated, or repaired as long as they are connected to the network, regardless of the state of the operating system or whether they’re powered off. Moreover, organisations can proactively manage threats by pushing updates to users before a breach occurs by leveraging the existing tools they employ.

Dimension Data ITS uses vPro for the following use cases, which are also the use cases being rolled out to clients at the moment:

* Remote desktop support;
* Device rebuild; and
* Power up and power down.

Dimension Data is proud of its first-hand understanding of the solutions that Intel offers and the growth of the Intel/Dimension Data relationship to date.
