Veeam Software, the innovative provider of solutions that deliver Availability for the Modern Data Centre, has announced Veeam Explorer for Oracle as part of the new Veeam Availability Suite v9, which will be generally available later this year.
In addition to a number of unique, industry-first features for Oracle – such as transaction-level database recovery, and agentless image-based backup and recovery for Oracle ASM – the company has also introduced several additional enterprise-level enhancements for Veeam Explorers for Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint and SQL Server.

With more than 400 000 customers—including 100 of the Fortune 100—Oracle is the No. 1 enterprise database. The addition of Veeam Explorer for Oracle comes at the request of enterprise customers seeking advanced Oracle support to deliver on the needs of today’s Always-On Business.

Veeam has long offered recovery from Oracle and other popular applications via U-AIR (Universal Application-Item Recovery) wizard. Now, Veeam Explorer for Oracle provides much simpler and more powerful recovery, joining the family of Veeam Explorers already developed specifically for Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint and SQL server.

As a result, the new Veeam Availability Suite v9 will extend its industry-leading, enterprise-ready capabilities for advanced, granular virtual machine (VM) recovery. Highlights of the new enhancements include:

* Veeam Explorer for Oracle – features unique transaction-level recovery of Oracle databases, including agentless transaction log backup so customers can restore to a precise point in time, thus protecting low recovery point objectives (RPOs); quick and simple one-click restore of individual databases; support for databases running on Windows- and Linux-based servers, and fully compatible with Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM), another industry-first from Veeam;

* New eDiscovery features for Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Exchange – useful for complying with legal or government investigations, these new features provide detailed export reports that allow customers to specify exactly what was exported, from where, and with what search criteria; adds query result estimation capabilities; and

* Major enhancements for Microsoft enterprise applications – allows restores of Group Policy Objects, integrated DNS records and configuration partition objects with Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory, full-site and site collection restores with Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SharePoint, and table-level restores with Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SQL Server.

“When it comes to databases, no company is more ubiquitous than Oracle and its position as the No. 1 database provider to enterprises across the globe serves to underline the critical nature of the operations it supports,” says Ratmir Timashev, CEO at Veeam. “Enterprises cannot afford downtime and while nothing is 100 percent reliable, these users demand that applications and data are back online within minutes; every moment of inactivity costs money! Veeam is committed to driving innovation across the industry and providing Availability for the Modern Data Center, which means achieving recovery time and point objectives (RTPO) of 15 minutes or less for critical applications and data. With this announcement, Veeam further demonstrates the scope of its support within the enterprise market and provides users with the utmost confidence that they can continue to achieve Always-On Business status and gain a major competitive edge.”
