The who’s who of South African eCommerce gathered in Rivonia last night to see takealot.com crowned the country’s favourite eCommerce website in the 10th annual South African eCommerce Awards.

Traditionally an online event, organisers uAfrica.com – in partnership with DPD Laser, PayFast, Nedbank and Shopify Plus – decided the 10th anniversary of the awards warranted a night of glitz and glamour at RoomFive in Rivonia.

“The eCommerce Awards have previously been exclusively an online event, however in 2013 & 2014, we announced the winners and runners up at the South African eCommerce Conference – incorporating it into the concept ‘everything eCommerce’,” says Andy Higgins, MD of uAfrica.com. “However, as it was the 10th year, we wanted to focus purely on the Awards by hosting an event dedicated to celebrating this achievement.”

From over 200 entrants the Top 50 was announced after a stringent evaluation process. These 50 websites then underwent a second round of evaluation to determine the winners and runners up of the various categories.

The winner of South Africa’s Favourite eCommerce Website was determined by a round of public voting that yielded over 90 000 votes. takealot.com was crowned South Africa’s Favourite eCommerce Website by receiving the most public votes from the 90,000.
