Samsung’s expansion of its memory portfolio offers customers a comprehensive suite of slim and sophisticated UFDs available in three ergonomic form factors, each equipped with robust Samsung NAND flash technology. The new USB 3.0 drives are designed to meet the requirements of the latest electronic devices which have USB ports as well as being compatible with USB 2.0 ports.
“These premium UFDs provide a full array of external memory storage products that can be used with confidence by our customers,” says Mike van Lier, director of the Enterprise Business Division (EBD) at Samsung Electronics SA. “Consumers now have a quality, one-stop-shop for all their memory needs.”
Samsung’s full lineup of storage products includes Secure Digital (SD) and microSD memory cards, internal Solid State Drives (SSD) and portable SSD products. The latest additions to Samsung’s memory portfolio come in a metal-based design and are available in the following ranges:
* Bar Type – The bar type offers a contemporary look with a high-quality metallic casing for added durability and a streamlined spherical end which allow users to easily insert and extract the drive from devices. This also acts as a subtle key ring to help prevent loss. Measuring 40mm long and weighing less than 9 grams, the drive is specifically designed for use in PC devices and comes in three memory sizes: 16Gb, 32Gb and 64Gb.
* Fit Type – The Samsung USB 3.0 flash drive Fit is the most compact of Samsung’s new UFD lineup and is manufactured for use in ultra-slim notebooks or in automobiles equipped with USB ports for data or music storage. The drive allows great portability while maintaining the streamlined edges of connected devices and providing an easy grip for removal. The Fit drive is less than 20mm long and weighs just over 2.0 grams and is available in both 32Gb and 64Gb capacities.
* Duo Type – The Samsung USB 3.0 flash drive Duo is specifically intended for smartphone, tablet and PC users on the go who require added flexibility for an all-in-one solution for standard and micro USB ports. The Duo comes with a convenient attached cap that protects the micro USB. The Duo drive is available in 32Gb and 64Gb varieties and is less than 37mm long and weighs less than 6 grams.
All ranges are equipped with Samsung’s five-proof technologies and a five-year warranty from the date of purchase. The 5-Proof technology guarantees each drive to withstand up to 72 hours in seawater and survive operating temperatures from -0°C to 60°C. Data stored on the drives will not be affected by standard airport X-ray machines or extreme levels of shock up to 1 500g (gravitational force) and can resist up to 15,000 gauss magnetic force, which is the equivalent of a high-field MRI scanner.
Van Lier concludes: “We are staying ahead of the industry with the next generation of SuperSpeed USB 3.0 flash drives. Our new additions to the Samsung memory storage range are carefully crafted from high-quality materials to ensure durability and reliability for our consumers.”
A total of seven drives in different form factors and capacities are currently available in South Africa with an additional 128GB capacity in each variety available from November 2015.
