Medium sized businesses require powerful enterprise-class networking functionality that meets often-constrained budgets and is simple to manage and maintain. The new Dell Networking N1500 Series of Gigabit Ethernet switches from distributor Drive Control Corporation (DCC) offers all of this and more.
Featuring integrated 10Gb Ethernet uplinks, high performance capabilities and wire-speed performance with an innovative agile architecture, superior scalability and simplified management, the N1500 series perfectly addresses the requirements of enterprises with up to 150 users at a price point that meets mid-market budgets.
“The Dell Networking N1500 Series is built on an open, standards-based approach that prevents closed ecosystems and vendor lock-in, with modular systems and flexible scaling. They are also SDN ready, offering support for next-generation software-defined networking deployments. This enables medium enterprises to future-proof their networks and leverage cost effective enterprise-class functionality, unlocking networking to facilitate business innovation,” says Jaco Erasmus, Dell Enterprise division manager at DCC.
With the N1500 switch series, medium enterprises can take advantage of high availability, high performance, easily scalable and agile network access. Running at full duplex, the N1500 Series provides a data rate of up to 176Gbps and a forwarding rate of up to 164Mbps. The series also provides simplified scaling by stacking with both 1GbE and 10GbE ports, and stacks can be easily managed from a single screen using the highly available stacking architecture, ideal for the deployment of high-density aggregation with seamless redundant availability. In addition, certain N1500 models offer 24 or 48 ports of PoE+ to deliver clean power to network devices such as wireless access points (APs), Voice-over-IP (VoIP) handsets, video conferencing systems and surveillance cameras.
“Many medium enterprises are still utilising aging 10/100Mb access switches, which limit the speed, agility and dynamic capability of Local Area Networks (LAN). The N1500 series is the ideal upgrade solution, offering a cost effective solution for the deployment of Gigabit Ethernet. The switches in this series make use of a non-blocking architecture, which means they are easily able to handle unexpected traffic loads. In addition, a stacking architecture, which allows for the management of up to four switches from a single IP address, simplifies management and scalability. They also offer enhanced energy efficiency for reduced cooling costs and power consumption,” adds Erasmus.
All N1500 Series switches also feature Dell Networking OS 6, which offers simplified deployment and enhanced interoperability as well as ease of learning for network administrators. A common command line interface (CLI) and graphic user interface (GUI) using an industry standards based command language ensures network administrators can come to grips with the solution quickly. USB auto-configuration enables the rapid deployment of mirrored configurations to numerous devices by simply inserting a USB key. The switches offer enhanced energy efficiency, as well as reduced cooling requirements and associated costs ideal for temperature constrained deployments.
A variety of models are available with up to 48 line-rate GbE RJ-45 ports and four integrated 10GbE SFP+ ports. The series provides support for 24 ports of PoE+ in a single rack unit or up to 48 ports of PoE+ with an optional external power supply. In addition, enterprises can leverage up to 200 1GbE ports in a 4-unit stack for high-density, high availability deployments, with non-stop forwarding and fast failover in stack configurations. The N1500 series also features Remote Switch Port Analyser (RSPAN) that monitors ports across a Layer 2 domain without costly dedicated network taps.
Dell Networking N1500 switches are backed by the strength of the Dell brand and superior support, featuring a limited lifetime hardware warranty that covers firmware upgrades, hardware repair or replacement, and optics and cables purchased with the switch, as well as optional three-year next business day on-site service for configuration support.
