MediSwitch, which transmits electronic healthcare transactions, has announced the appointment of Andrew Brown as managing executive following the retirement of long-time incumbent Peter Kennedy, who will step down at the end of February 2016 after 16 years as MD.
Kennedy will remain at the helm of MediSwitch during the transition period until his retirement.
Brown has more than 25 years’ experience in IT and enterprise business systems, primarily working in the utilities, manufacturing and healthcare industries, in both South Africa and the Middle East. Prior to joining MediSwitch, Brown was the MD of Meditech South Africa where he worked for seven years.
Brown has a BCom Information Systems degree from UCT and a MBA from the Wits Business School.
Kennedy says that Brown’s strong track record and substantial experience made him the ideal candidate for the role.
“Over the past few months I have worked with Andrew and he brings a wealth of experience to MediSwitch at this important stage of its development. He has an excellent track record and was selected for his depth of leadership experience and strategic abilities and I am confident that he will make a significant contribution to the role and ensure that MediSwitch builds on its success as South Africa’s premier Electronic Data Interchange provider for healthcare professionals and medical schemes.”
In terms of the organisation’s future growth plans, Brown says the South African healthcare industry was filled with opportunities and the continued success for MediSwitch lay in bringing new and innovative services and products into the industry to the benefit of both healthcare professionals and consumers.
