Zazoo a business unit of Net 1 UEPS Technologies, has appointed Tamara d’Onofrio as its country head for South Africa.
Zazoo is an aggregation of innovative technology companies and a provider of payment solutions and transaction processing services. Its patented technologies have enabled mobile payment solutions for the likes of Uber South Africa, World Remit, Microsoft, Funifi in the UK, BitX and Oxigen Wallet in India.
“As we continue to expand Zazoo’s offerings into new markets, it is important for us to maintain dedicated focus in each territory and as such I am delighted to announce the appointment of Tamara to head up our South African business,” says Philip Belamant, MD of Zazoo.
d’Onofrio entered the South African banking industry in 2004, in the midst of new legislation imposed on the banks by the Financial Intelligence Centre. It was here that she gained her initial experience and insights into the regulatory environment that governs financial institutions, and the relevance of the compliance function within the financial services industry.
Since then, she has spent over ten years within the client management functions of two major South African banks, most recently heading up the transactional banking sales function within Nedbank’s Corporate and Investment Banking. Her client experience spans across retail, commercial, large corporate and multi-national companies.
d’Onofrio has developed a good understanding of the technical, operational and functional financial needs that organizations are faced with and has a passion for ensuring that the most suitable and relevant products and services are developed and delivered to address these needs. Her key focus over this time has been on business development and ensuring the appropriate systems and processes are in place for sustainable growth.
d’Onofrio has worked with Net1 for the majority of her tenure in banking, which has allowed her to establish working relationships with executive and management teams across most business units.
“Tamara’s close interaction with Net1 has given her invaluable insight into the operations across the group and the synergies and opportunities that can be exploited through strong collaborative efforts,” says Belamant. “We are extremely excited about Tamara coming on board to head the South African team and will certainly enjoy the unique benefit in gaining fresh perspectives backed by intrinsic, in-depth understanding.”
d’Onofrio will be working closely with Belamant, who is based in the UK, Dhruv Chopra, who is the country head for Zazoo in India, and Philip Meyer, MD of Transact24.
