SanDisk (a Western Digital brand) has appointed Kolok as its third official distributor, covering South Africa and neighbouring countries Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
With logistics and distribution operations in South Africa, Kolok also has offices in Namibia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Botswana. Through the SanDisk partnership, the distributor will be introducing a new range of storage data transfer products to the market.
Tareq Husseini, Middle East and Africa sales director at SanDisk, says the new alliance is an essential move for both companies in a region with a growing penetration of mobile phones and increasing appetite for memory cards.
“Kolok has 50 years’ distribution experience and expertise in South Africa, and its name is synonymous with trust and transparency. This means we are being provided with a great service, and our retailers and customers are being provided with a range of SanDisk products. Kolok also expands our reach in South Africa with regards to stationery channels, which is one of their strongest and most solid markets,” says Husseini.
Kolok was established in 1966 and joined the Bidvest Group in 1997.
Linda Stevens, business unit manager at Kolok, says: “We are known across the industry and across the region as a service provider that does not compromise on products or professionalism. We represent many of the best known and most respected IT brands in the world, and to be able to list SanDisk among them is a great boost to our portfolio.”
Kolok will add an extra dimension to SanDisk’s existing operations in South Africa, following the appointment of Tudortech and Mustek in 2015.
In South Africa there are now more SIM cards than citizens and a mobile penetration of around 128%.
