AlwaysOn has launched Airtime Converter, which the company says turns mobile airtime into South Africa’s cheapest WiFi data.
This means that consumers do not need a credit card or a contract to get connected at thousands of AlwaysOn Hotspots in South Africa’s urban centres.
“Our Airtime Convertor is the simplest, cheapest way for consumers to connect to the internet, whether they use prepaid or contract airtime from Vodacom, MTN or Cell C,” says Hayden Lamberti, MD of AlwaysOn.
He says that at just R15 for 150MB, AlwaysOn public WiFi data is substantially cheaper than data bundle rates offered by the major network operators.
When at an AlwaysOn WiFi Hotspot, consumers can turn their airtime into data in just four easy steps:
* On the AlwaysOn website, select ‘WiFi’ under the Buy Now! Tab;
* Make sure you’re on the Airtime Convertor tab and select the amount of data you need;
* Enter your Vodacom, MTN or Cell C mobile number when directed; and
* You’ll receive an SMS to confirm the conversion.
The AlwaysOn public WiFi network has expanded dramatically over the last three years, and is now ubiquitous at South African airports, shopping centres, hotels and public spaces like libraries and community centres.
AlwaysOn SuperWiFi locations offer fibre-like internet speed and connections, ideal for downloading files, upgrading apps and watching video.
“AlwaysOn Hotspots are where teens, students, small business owners, tourists and consumers without access to the internet at home can enjoy super-low-cost, reliable connections so they can work, play and access the material they need to study,” says Lamberti.
“We are thrilled with this new payment service as the South Africans that benefit most from fast, affordable public WiFi should not be restricted from the internet because they don’t have a credit card.”
