It wasn’t just the usual suspects that dominated the list of smartest companies on the 2017 MIT Technology Review.
In fact, the company that came in at number one is Nvidia, best known for its gaming processors.
Nvidia won the coveted top spot largely because of its diversification into processors for artificial intelligence (AI) systems, giving it a solid foothold in the burgeoning cloud and autonomous driving markets.
Coming in at second place is Elon Musk’s SpaceX rocket company. Amazon, 23andMe and Google parent company Alphabet round out the top five.
Nigeria’s Jumia e-commerce company, part of African Internet Group, also made it on to the list, at number 44.
