As part of the national Festive Season Road Safety campaign, the Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) will conduct “Know Your Traffic Fines Status” campaign across the country.
The campaign renders mobile customer information services aimed at reaching out to road users to educate them about their rights and options as contained in the AARTO Act.
The RTIA’s national campaign seeks to encourage positive driver behaviour, drive voluntary compliance to road traffic laws, curb road fatalities, penalise and rehabilitate repeat offenders.
Under the AARTO Act, within the first 32 days of receiving an infringement notice, motorists can exercise five options:
* Make a representation to dispute a traffic infringement;
Nominate a new driver;
Apply for revocation of an enforcement order;
Arrange to pay for infringements in instalments; or
Elect to be tried in court.
During the festive season AARTO mobile offices will be visiting the Driving License Testing Centres (DLTC), taxi ranks, and fuel stations in various municipalities across the country to undertake AARTO public awareness.
