Radio station 702 Talk Radio has partnered with Sentech to expand its coverage to Pretoria and surrounding areas. Pretoria listeners can now tune in to 702 on 106 FM.

Sentech, which was responsible for the installation of the Pretoria transmitter will also control and maintain it.
“Pretoria listeners can enjoy a high-quality broadcast on 106.0 MHz by tuning in to Johannesburg’s number one news and information station,” says Vaughan Taylor, senior key account manager at Sentech.
The broadcast distributor was also responsible for the installation of 702’s new Johannesburg transmitter (located at the Sentech Tower) from which the station has been broadcasting since 18 July 2006. The radio station will, however, remain on 702kHz (in the medium wave band) until mid-2007. The 540kHz transmitter will be shut down at the end of November 2006.
To enable 702 to reach its target market on FM in the greater Johannesburg area, Sentech has over the last seven months spent about R3-million on new equipment including FM transmitters, antenna combining equipment and power reticulation systems.
“Furthermore, as 702 now broadcasts on two FM frequencies, the station’s listeners will benefit significantly in terms of improved signal delivery as the majority of FM radio receivers offer RDS (radio display system) functionality that allows the receiver to automatically tune into the strongest received signal,” says Taylor.
