Zebra Technologies has made its intentions clear in the active radio frequency (RFID) space with the acquisition of Santa Clara-based WhereNet for $126-million.

Zebra recently revamped its strategy in the South African market, establishing a local office and appointing Debbie Hunter as country manager.
The WhereNet deal is subject to shareholder approval, but is expected to be bedded down by the end of January.
WhereNet is a major supplier of integrated wireless Real Time Locating Systems (RTLS) to the manufacturing, transportation, logistics, aerospace and defence industries.
Zebra will run WhereNet as a separate division and expects revenues of $50-million from it in 2007.
