One of South Africa's largest IT companies, MB Technologies (MBT) is to throw its full weight behind a new security division.

According to sources, the new company – to be officially launched early February – will be called NetDefense and will be headed up by MBT exec and former Tarsus CEO, Guy Whitcroft.
Security products within the group – notably from Cisco and Symantec – are expected to be folded into the new division which is also believed to be in advanced negotiations with security specialist Celestix.
With the South African government enhancing legislation around IT security, the market is expected to be worth more than R300-million in 2007.
Whitcroft was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press.
