All Black flyhalf Daniel Carter was the first person to officially buy a consumer version of Microsoft Vista at the retail launch of the new operating system in New Zealand.

Due to international time zones, New Zealand was the first country in the world to start selling Vista.
Carter bought a laptop pre-loaded with Vista and Office 2007 which he then put up for a charity auction. The proceeds of the auction will go to Cure Kids, a charity for children with life-threatening illnesses.
At the time of going to press, the top bid for the laptop was $871.
