One of the world's biggest distributors, Ingram Micro is expected to release a statement later this afternoon announcing its official entry into the South African maket.

After nearly a decade of rumour and speculation, the US-based distribution giant has signed a joint venture with MB Technologies, holding company of many of South Africa's largest distributors including Tarsus, Storgate and ACT.
It is believed that the JV involves Storgate and that the new company – Ingram Micro South Africa – will initially concentrate solely on computer components.
Ingram Micro has in the past been linked with possible buyouts of various distributors in the local market, most notably Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD) in the late 1990s before its spectacular collapse.
MB Technologies was unavailable for comment at the time of going to press, but more details of the deal are expected in an official press release this afternoon.
