Chaos reigned this morning at OR Tambo as some computer systems failed and airlines had to resort to manual check-in procedures.

The full cause of the failure is not yet clear, although a spokesman desribes the problem as being within the backbone platform that services the individual airlines' own check-in systems.
He adds that not all airlines were affected. SAA, for instance, was able to process passengers via its computer system as usual.
The problem has now been sorted out and all the airlines are back online.
A full report is expected later today.
