Glass packaging company Consol has outsourced its entire ICT environment to T-Systems SA in a deal worth more than R50-million over the next six years.

Johan du Plessis, Consol SA’s IT divisional director, explains that the contract effectively consists of two three-year cycles, merged into an initial six-year relationship, since this gives T-Systems the opportunity to optimise its support offering to Consol.
“The main advantage to Consol is that we have flexibility in our IT supply and there is an agreed cost reduction over the period of the contract,” he says. “Consol was not prepared to get ‘locked in’ to a longer term contract without some real advantages, one of which was keeping the flexibility to restructure the service to our requirements in the future.”
Mardia van der Walt-Korsten, CEO of T-Systems SA, adds: “This is a comprehensive outsourcing deal that includes infrastructure, applications and the network. Consol needed a partner that could provide the full scope of ICT services and which truly understands IT outsourcing.”
