Following recent reports that online encyclopaedia, Wikipedia, could be in financial trouble comes the news that a college in the US has banned it as a source for history projects.

According to USA Today, the history department at Middlebury College in Vermont has adopted a policy whereby students can consult Wikipedia, but they can't cite it as an authorative source.
"Wikipedia is not an acceptable citation, even though it may lead one to a citable source," the policy states.
The report quotes Middlebury history professor, Neil Waters, as saying Wikipedia is an ideal place to start research, but an unacceptable way to end it.
