Hewlett-Packard SA has moved quickly to quash rumours that its Personal Systems Group (PSG) is looking to appoint an additional distributor in South Africa.

PSG products are currently distributed in the country by Tarsus and Axiz, but speculation has been rife in the channel that the group was poised to appoint a third distributor.
Thierry Boulanger, manager, Solutions Partner Organisation (SPO) at HP SA, says the rumour is totally without foundation.
"I can categorically say: No, that is not the case," Boulanger says. "It is interesting that whenever there is movement in the market this rumour surfaces. When Westcon bought Jet, we got the question. The announcement about Ingram Micro, we got the question.
"People speculate, but we've had no discussions, no talks about this matter."
Boulanger says HP's philosophy on the subject is simple: "If the existing distributors had empty shelves and couldn't fulfill the needs of our channel, then we might consider another distributor.
"Right now, we have enough stock to fulfill the requirements of our partners.
"If we took a decision on an additional distributor purely to fill shelves, then that would not be a good decision."
Boulanger adds that it's ironic that PSG is always at the core of these rumours. "Why is there never speculation around additional distributors for IPG … or servers … or storage?" he asks.
