Oracle will extend its participation in the Eclipse Foundation by becoming a board member and strategic developer, a move the software vendor is positioning as helping to drive open source innovations and furthering its commitment to the developer community.
Oracle’s increased role in the Eclipse community also includes a new proposal to open source its Oracle TopLink technology, a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware, through the Eclipse Foundation.
Mike Milinkovich, director of the Eclipse Foundation, comments: “Oracle is well known for its on-going contributions to Eclipse and the open source and developer communities."
Dennis Leung, vice-president: software development at Oracle. adds: “Expanding our relationship and leadership role with the Eclipse Foundation, in conjunction with our donation of Oracle TopLink code, provides an excellent opportunity for Oracle to foster the growth of open source software and choice for developers."
