Proudly South African electronic research and development house NetShield SA is gearing up for a major thrust into Africa following the acquisition by IT systems and communications distributor Comztek of an additional stake in the Pretoria-based company.
Comztek originally invested in NetShield in January 2004 and this year increased its stake further.
NetShield founder and MD Inus Dreckmeyr says Comztek's increased shareholding is good news for the company, bringing with it opportunities that might otherwise be out of NetShield's reach.
"We are strengthening our partnership with a large, vibrant organisation that understands our business, and has the financial muscle and geographic footprint to enable us to grow our brand in South Africa and beyond," he explains.
"With Comztek's backing we will be well placed to boost demand in South Africa for NetShield's free space optical, wireless radio, packet shaping, VoIP, optical transmission, computer and video network, data communication, surge protection, multiplexer, Time Division Multiplexing telecommunication and mining safety solutions.
"And we will be able to leverage Comztek's presence in Southern, Central, East and West Africa to deliver our products into those markets and potentially into other regions that want cost-effect, robust, network communications solutions."
According to Dreckmeyr, NetShield is also looking to partner with local developers and manufacturers of complementary products and services so as to broaden the company's offering.
At present, Netshield's locally developed, designed and manufactured range includes Industrial products, Media Converters and Transceivers, Interface Switches, Free space optical Laser Communications products, Voice and Data Multiplexers, Protocol encapsulation products, video on fibre products, and Managed Surge Protection and isolation products.
Comztek MD Paul Conradie says NetShield has grown exponentially over the past few years as its R&D focus expanded into OEM. The NetShield product range grew out of the commercialisation of products developed for specific turnkey solutions delivered by the NetShield development team to companies operating in a range of industry sectors including mining and healthcare.
"Our investment in NetShield has been excellent for Comztek. We had the option to increase our shareholding, and we believe we have found the right balance that will enable NetShield to maintain the culture that has kept it at the cutting edge of technological development, while supporting its business growth."
