One of South Africa's oldest Internet Service Providers (ISPs) certainly knows how to win friends and keep the media sweet.
Journalist Kathy Gibson was horrified today to receive a call from a debt collector informing her that the ISP she had last worked with about four years ago had handed her over for an amount slightly in excess of R1 000.00.
Since no invoices, statements or other notifications had been received and, until the account was cancelled, payment was made via stop order, a call to the ISP seemed in order.
"Oh, I see the cancellation should have been done, but it wasn't, so the account was handed over for collection. I'm really sorry about that," was the laconic response received.
A promise to fix the oversight, correct the account details and call off the debt collectors will be believed when it happens.
