Dell, the doyen of the direct model, could be gearing up to an about-face and developing a reseller channel.

The company, which made the direct-to-consumer sales model its own, has lately battled to recapture the glory of previous years. Dell has been consistenly trounced by HP in PC market share.
CEO and founder Michael Dell wrote in an e-mail to employees late last week: "The direct model has been a revolution, but is not a religion. We will simplify our business model and go beyond it to give our customers what they need.
"This is one of the most exciting periods in our history, but it requires all of us to stand together as one Dell to make profound changes and take well thought-out risks.
"We will simplify our organisation to make it easier to hear customers."
