The financial director of Mustek, Hein Engelbrecht, has been appointed MD of Mecer following the sudden resignation of Dean Barkhuizen after 19 years at the group.

Rumours of Barkhuizen's imminent departure from Mecer have done the rounds in the industry for a number of months, but his departure last Tuesday did catch many by surprise. Mustek CEO David Kan, currently out of the country, declined to comment on Barkhuizen's leaving saying only that it was to "pursue personal interests".
Engelbrech joined Mustek in 1997 as a group financial manager. He was appointed to the board as financial director on 1 September 2000.
