The trend towards outsourcing jobs to India has reached a new level with a community publication in California hiring offshore journalists to report on local news.

The Web site pasadenanow.com has hired two journalists based in India to cover the local town's weekly City Council meetings and other events happenings in Pasadena.
Because the City Council's weekly meetings are broadcast over the Internet, the idea obviously makes sense to the publisher, who argues that any reporter is just a phone call or e-mail away from an interview – regardless of where they are.
This may be the first time that such a local reporting job has been outsourced to India but it's not the first time for the industry as a whole.
Reuters, for instance, runs an agency in Bangalore that writes about Wall Street issues.
