Intel will probably announce research initiatives on Thursday that will result in chips with literally hundreds of cores.

Should the research pan out, and produce these chips, they will form the basis of almost unbelievably powerful computers.
Another research project that the company is expected to announce would find a way to resolve the increasing bottleneck between processors and memory.
These Intel initiatives are one of the scientific projects that will be on show at the Microprocessor Forum taking place in Silicon Valley this week.
Intel scientists will be presenting a number of papers, including one on its planned research regarding multi-core chips.
