Nintendo has opened up it Wii game system platform to independent video game developers, opening up new market opportunities for the gaming console.

From early 2008, developers will be able to buy the WiiWare tool that will let them create and sell downloadable games for the Wii.
Although developers can start designing their games on a PC, they will have to be finished off on a Wii console.
The new development will let smaller developers create niche games that may have a more limited audience than the mainstream games available now.
