South African customers of Mobius, a leading provider of integrated solutions for enterprise content management (ECM), stand to benefit from the acquisition of the firm by Allen Systems Group (ASG), an enterprise software provider to Global 5000 companies.

Under the terms of the agreement, ASG paid approximately $211-million for full ownership of the previously public company.
Mark Knight, ASG’s Regional Vice President for Africa, says it’s business as usual for Mobius customers in South Africa. “We are delighted to be working with Bateleur Software, which has a history of excellent service delivery. We will continue to sell, support and service all Mobius applications through Bateleur and look forward to introducing Bateleur to the synergistic product sets in the broad ASG portfolio,” he says.
The official South African distributor for Mobius, Bateleur Software is an independent software support and development company which provides consulting and technical services to the corporate sector.
Sam Selmer-Olsen, MD of Bateleur Software, comments: “This is a positive development for all parties concerned: our customers, ASG and Bateleur. The acquisition has the potential to broaden our Bateleur offering and will instantly grow the ASG presence in the South African marketplace.”
The acquisition strengthens ASG’s position as a market leader for end-to-end enterprise software solutions. Currently, more than 30% of ASG employees focus exclusively on product development, enhancement, and maintenance. As a result, ASG has one of the software industry’s leading customer support systems – offering 24/7 customer service and technical support worldwide.
The combined company will provide comprehensive software solutions for ECM, accelerating automation of business process workflow and dramatically improving productivity for clients.
“Knowledge workers must make sense of huge volumes of content every day. Being able to easily find, filter, organise and contextualise information is a requirement for businesses today,” Selmer-Olsen points out. “Strong enterprise content management solutions like Mobius and ASG-Cypress make this possible.”
Knight adds: “Mobius’s technology and experienced personnel will help our customers fuse their IT investments with their business goals. This acquisition further strengthens ASG’s position as the provider of market-leading technologies specifically engineered to accelerate Business Service Management (BSM) through our Business Service Platform."
The acquisition positions ASG favourably in the growing ECM and BSM markets. According to Forrester’s ‘Topic Overview: Enterprise Content Management’, December 2006: “Business users, business managers, CIOs, and enterprise architects are beginning to think of ECM as a must-have. Forrester expects the worldwide ECM software market to reach $3,9-billion in 2008 (based on licence revenue). This shows that information and knowledge management professionals are effectively coaching business process owners and managers to realise the importance of organising and managing content from multiple sources to make better business decisions, comply with different regulatory requirements, and deliver more effective customer experiences through multiple channels.”
