Microsoft MD has high expectations

Certain analysts may only expect growth in the South African IT market to peak at around 13% this year, but Microsoft South Africa MD, Pfungwa Serima says that any of its resellers that don't achieve at least 20% growth are literally having their market taken out of their mouths.

In his keynote address at Microsoft's annual Partner Summit at Sun City, Serima said that he firmly believes the software giant has the "right story and the right solutions out there for everyone."
"If you're not growing your business by 20% then someone else is eating your market," he told delegates. "Twenty percent is the mean that I'm looking for. And it's a mean [growth rate] I'm confident both Microsoft and its partners can achieve.
"With Vista and Office, I believe we've got two of the best products in the market today," Serima says. "If ever there were opportunities to grow, these are here … available now … solutions that people can build around.
"I'm really hungry," he says. "Because I see all these new technologies coming into the market, but I don't see any competitors matching them – and the opportunity is out there. I'm very passionate and have the energy to go out there and win the business with you."
Perhaps in reference to some recent reports about an "exodus" of staff from Microsoft SA, Serima emphasised the strength of his current management team during his address. Recent additions to this include former Hewlett-Packard country manager and UK VP sales, Henry Ferreira and HP SA's former head of IPG, Reginald Nxumalo.
"We have brought in some new people," Serima says. "Some good people, and people that will provide all the support that our partners need."
