SAS ups sub-Saharan Africa investment

SAS Institute has announced that, in order better to support the ongoing high growth in the African region and to meet the increasing requirements for its enterprise intelligence solutions, it has appointed Edward Sungura as Regional Director for the Sub-Saharan Africa region.

Over the past two years Sungura has built an exceptional customer base on the continent, outside of South Africa's borders, and has established the foundation for strong partnerships with a number of key SAS Alliance members.  In addition to which he has also managed to secure an impressive list of clients across the region, which include the likes of: MTN Nigeria, First City Monument Bank, Skye Bank, GT Bank, to mention but a few.  In his new role responsible for much of Africa beyond the SA borders, Sungura will report directly to Bill Hoggarth, CEO Africa Middle East.
Says Hoggarth: “We are very pleased with the results we are starting to see from the last few years investment we have made into a number of the emerging African markets.  Now is the time for SAS to ramp up its resources within this region, and enforce its commitment to a growing network of customers and partners, with particular emphasis on Nigeria and Kenya.  It is with this that I believe that in Edward, we will have the right leadership for the region, and that he will provide his future team optimal direction and support.”
SAS remains committed to the Sub-Saharan African market, which year on year has continued to grow beyond expectations.  The company is also delighted to form part of a vision for many African countries, who want to succeed and grow beyond some of their more established European counter parts – using BI and information to get them there.
States Sungura: “This appointment is an exciting one for me and I am keen to broaden SAS' footprint into the sub-Sahara region.  There is such a thirst for knowledge and information throughout Africa, and this falls perfectly in line with the very business intelligence solutions and services we support.”
Sungura assumes his new role with immediate effect.
