SMC Networks has extended its line of 802.11n wireless networking products. The new products are available locally through SMC Networks South Africa and offer the benefits of high speed, coverage and bandwidth to home and office users whilst being compatible with 802.11b and g standards.

The new line is designed for use with demanding applications such as online gaming, high definition video streaming, file sharing and VoIP. They provide extended wireless coverage and are capable of achieving data transfer rates of up to 300Mbps – almost six times the rate of 802.11g.
The extended solutions comprise of the BarricadeTM N Draft Wireless four-port Gigabit Broadband Router (SMCWBR14-N), the EZ ConnectTM N Wireless Access Point/ Ethernet Client (SMCWEB-N) and the EZ ConnectTM 802.11N Wireless USB2.0 Adapter (SMCWUSB-N).
“We are particularly pleased about the introduction of these solutions to the local market. Aside from the advantages of enhanced network capacity and performance, the new line allows users a completely new level of digital interaction and workflow experience,” says Paul Luff, country manager at SMC Networks South Africa.
The ‘Works with Windows Vista’ certified BarricadeTM N Wireless four-port Gigabit broadband router (SMCWGBR14-N) is an all-in-one networking solution for connecting and sharing a high speed cable or xDSL Internet connection. The platform independent, multi-functional router combines a high speed 300Mbps Wireless-N access point, a four-port Gigabit Switch, firewall with Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI), Intelligent stream handling technology, a USB2.0 multi-function print server for printing from any networked PC and Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) for easy set up of wireless security.
The SMC EZ Connect 802.11n draft v2.0 Wireless Access Point/Ethernet Client (SMCWEB-N) is a multi-function device that can operate in either Access Point or Ethernet Client modes to add high speed wireless connectivity to the network or connect multiple Ethernet-enabled devices including game consoles, media players or Network Attached Storage devices. Optimised for multimedia applications, the SMCWEB-N has 4 Fast Ethernet LAN ports and incorporates Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) and Wireless Intelligent Stream Handling Technology (WISH).
When connected to a network anchored by the Barricade N Wireless four-port Router (SMCWGBR14-N) or other 802.11n router, the new EZ Connect N Wire-less USB 2.0 Adapter (SMCWUSB-N) gives wireless connectivity to PCs or notebooks.
“Small offices and homes are increasingly using demanding applications such as online gaming, file sharing, VoIP and video streaming”, said James Harris, Product Manager at SMC Networks. “The new N products deliver the benefits of 802.11n with the high speed, coverage and performance that these applications demand.  They also allow such applications to work smoothly by automatically managing and prioritising traffic flow in the network and via the Internet.”
