Both MTN and Telkom today renewed their cautionary announcements, as talks initiated last month are still ongoing.
MTN posted an announcement on SENS, cautioning shareholders that it was still involved in discussions to buy Telkom's fixed line assets.
Telkom, meanwhile, advises that discussions with the UK-based Vodafone Group and the MTN Group are still ongoing.
Should the Vodafone deal materialise, it would involve the purchase of the share in Vodacom that Vodafone currently doesn't hold, to give it the major stake in the cellular phone operator.
MTN, meanwhile, is going ahead with plans to lay its own national fibre network.
